We confirm whether or not the chimney and flue is constructed in the proper manner and free from deficiencies which can lead to chimney fires and carbon monoxide leaks.
We inspect for issues including but not limited to the following:
We’ll fill out a custom inspection report with pictures of your fireplace and chimney to show you your current conditions before reviewing what your goals and options are.
All of our sweeps are preceded by a full inspection to ensure the system is safe and up to code.
Our inspection process starts on the roof and is a full overview of the system from top to bottom and interior to exterior. We inspect all masonry components of the chimney including mortar joints, flashing, brick/stonework and crown and wash condition.
For those chimneys that are inside a wooden chase, we inspect for signs of water damage, sun rot, and the presence of pests such as carpenter bees.
When we inspect the flue, we use a state-of-the-art camera system. We look for gaps and/or breaks in the tile for masonry and for factory-built systems we are looking for damage to the seams/joint as well as signs of a chimney fire.
Why do I need an inspection?
At the end of the day, you are putting a fire in your living room – and we want to make sure you are doing it safely. There are many hidden dangers associated with chimneys and fireplaces, and we not only pride ourselves on mitigating these dangers, but also educating the homeowner about them.
What is the cost of sweep and inspection?
Our Sweep with Inspection prices are dependent on several things such as type of service, location of home, and time of year.
What does an inspection entail?
Our inspections start on the roof and include a full overview of your system. We check the chimney and its cap for integrity and waterproofing, the flue and its condition regarding breaks and cleanliness, and the firebox or appliance and its condition. We follow all codes and standards found in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 211 documentation.
Can you still sweep, even if the inspection finds something wrong?
No. It is our policy that if any deficiencies are found we don’t sweep but rather talk about what repairs are needed to bring the system up to code and make it safe to use.
Cleaning the system gives the impression that you can get away with another burn and that’s just not the case. In the event that a fire was to occur, and we were the last ones to touch it, we would be liable. Upon the completion of our inspection our technicians will sit down with you and review their findings on a tablet where you can see pictures and ask any questions you may have. This report will also be emailed for your records.
After this time they will talk about repairs necessary and what YOU want to achieve with your system.
How long does a sweep and inspection take?
We need around 2 hours per system to perform a proper inspection and report those findings to you. We also will provide you with information about a solution for any issues we find at that time.
What services do you provide?
We are a full service hearth sales, installations, and service company. We do it all, including turn key projects.
How far are you booked out?
We stay booked out around 3 months during the fall. The best time for us to perform services is during the spring and summer. We are often only scheduled out around 2 or 3 weeks during that time of year.
What areas do you service?
We serve all of Western North Carolina, including these counties:
